If you rode your Big Tech winners into the new year, now might be the time to consider whittling down a few of those overweight positions. "It's the only way to consistently buy low and sell high, but no one ever wants to do it," duQuesnay said. He noted that the iShares Russell 2000 ETF (IWM) is a good way to get broad exposure to the space. The Federal Reserve's rate-hiking campaign made yields on an array of assets, ranging from Treasurys to money market funds, attractive. Ethridge, who bought six- and 12-month brokered certificates of deposit for clients in 2023, is going for longer-dated instruments these days.

Microsoft is bringing its Copilot chatbot to Windows 10
  + stars: | 2023-11-16 | by ( Jordan Novet | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +3 min
Microsoft said Thursday it will soon start testing the Copilot chatbot in an update to the widely used Windows 10 operating system. Microsoft on Oct. 31 started rolling out an update that features Copilot to Windows 11, its latest operating system. But among Windows PCs, Windows 11 has about 27% share, and Windows 10 leads with about 68%, according to StatCounter estimates. In Windows, Copilot can serve as "the everyday AI companion," Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said on an October conference call with analysts. It will be similar to the Copilot in Bing and won't be able to perform as many PC-related functions as the Copilot in Windows 11, because some elements of Windows 11 aren't present in Windows 10, Woodman said.

New York is the $1.35 trillion fund's only office outside mainland China besides Hong Kong. CIC asked Bai Xiaoqing, who was in charge of some of its private equity investments from Beijing, to move to New York for the North America head role, the sources said, requesting anonymity because the move has not been publicly announced. U.S. authorities have been especially suspicious of investments originating from entities close to China's communist government, like CIC. CIC is also a significant investor in U.S. private equity funds, as so-called alternative assets comprise almost half of its portfolio. One of its most prominent investments has been a $2.5 billion Goldman Sachs Group Inc (GS.N) private equity fund aimed at investing in companies that can benefit from closer U.S.-China ties.

Higher yields on certificates of deposit are out there, but you'll have to venture beyond your favorite bank to get them. "There could be as much as a 50-basis point difference going to a brokered CD," he said. Brokered vs. bank offerings With a bank CD, the investor goes directly to the institution to buy the instrument. For instance, brokered CDs purchased via Vanguard begin at 1 to 3 months and go out beyond 10 years. The value of the CD will fluctuate with interest rates, with the price declining as yields run higher.

Chris Hondros | Getty Images News | Getty ImagesBEIJING — The Biden administration's long-awaited executive order on U.S. investments in Chinese companies leaves open plenty of questions on how it will be implemented. "The executive order obviously gives an outline of what the program's scope is going to be like," said Brian P. Curran, a partner, global regulatory at law firm Hogan Lovells in Washington, D.C. "It's not even a proposed rule. U.S. President Joe Biden on Wednesday signed an executive order aimed at restricting U.S. investments into Chinese semiconductor, quantum computing and artificial intelligence companies over national security concerns. This week's announcements don't explicitly prohibit U.S. investments into Chinese businesses, but the documents indicate what policymakers are focused on. But the Treasury said it may request information about transactions completed or agreed to since the issuance of the executive order.
